The beginning of 2011 was the high point of social gaming, at least according to official Zynga numbers. Sony’s new handheld games console, the PlayStation Vita, suffered a sharp drop in sales in only its second week in the shops, according to independent figures.
After selling 325,000 units in its first seven days, demand collapsed more than 75%, video games analysts said.
Only 72,500 were sold in the week before Christmas, according to Media Create, which tracks the video games industry in Japan.
